While the Prime Minister is busy posing for Reliance’s distasteful front-page advertisement campaigns, Karnataka farmers are struggling hard to rely on him. After the Supreme Court directed the Karnataka state government to release 15,000 cusecs of water per day for next ten days to Tamil Nadu, the farmers have been protesting.
The imminent anxiety of being deprived of water, is understandable. And in the face of no solutions from the centre, as a neutral arbiter, the Karnataka state government is having to slug it out alone. Even as the state government is holding deliberations with legislature leaders and MPs to discuss the water dispute, Modi government has not reached out for any advice, support or solution.
A call for bandh has now been announced on September 9th by agitating organizations, but the central government is still pretty much silent, shedding not even so much as crocodile’s tears to quell the angry tears of Karnataka farmers.
