When twitter flared up over Piers Morgan’s comments about India’s bad Olympics performance, we all put up a brave face despite knowing the obvious glaring lapses in sports funding and infrastructure in India. However, Haryana sports minister Anil Vij’s vote garnering act has reassured us that votes, not sports remains the top priority for the Modi regime.
The Haryana Sports Minister Anij Vij showed his desperation for votes when he donated Rs. 50 lakh from his discretionary fund to the Dera Sacha Sauda. The organization’s sports league – the Tiranga Rumal Chhoo, promises to revive the “Indian culture”.
One might think a case for sports could be made here, but none of the games played at the event are actually played at a national or at an international level. In fact these games were all created by Saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh himself. No wonder our sportspersons compete with the bare minimum facilities, our politicians are more interested in votes, than sports.
