In the last year’s Lok Sabha address, Narendra Modi described NREGA as the monument of UPA’s failure. Such a display of ignorance and lack of appreciation for the opposition’s noteworthy achievements is only a manifestation of NDA’s narrow and bankrupt political vision. In Karnataka, spending per MLA constituency for MNREGA has gone up 57 per cent in 2013-14, under the Congress regime.
Maybe before preaching the opposition to take kindly to its flagship schemes, it needs to start cleaning its own house when it comes to implementing opposition’s flagship schemes. Apart from the improved spending under the Congress regime, there is also a noticeable improvement in the average daily wage in the SC/ST reserved constituencies compared to the state average in 2011-12. The average daily wage paid out during 2013-14 for the work done in that year has also increased to Rs. 135 per person-day.
It is not a failure of the policy, it is a failure of the concerned regime, responsible for implementing a policy, if figures don’t throw up favorable numbers. Karnataka Government is a good example of how opposition’s flagship schemes can be implemented better than them! The implementation par excellence of the Swatch Bharat Abhiyan is the best example in this regard. So Karnataka showing the way on how its done!
